These teacher training courses help you develop your skills whether you are looking for a first qualification in EFL teaching (CELTA), an in-depth diploma extension (Delta) or a specialized qualification in teaching English for business (Cert. IBET). The Grammar Course and Bridge to SBEV1 and Teaching One-to-On complete the range.
Our team of trainers includes John Potts, Paul Kelly, Helen Brügger-Clarke, Sandra Ondraschek and Nancie Gantenbein, all highly respected local EFL-trainers with years of experience. Mark Powell, trainer of international reknown, is the trainer for Cert. Int. Business English Teaching and Teaching One-to-One.

Introductory Grammar Course for Teachers of English
This course is gives you the essential tools and terminology for language analysis while also developing your language awareness. It provides a detailed discussion of the English verb system, clause patterns and verb complementation, and also looks at other areas of grammar such as countability. You'll also look at language varieties, registers, usage, phonology, functional categories, language development and change, etc.
You receive an extensive up-to-date list of grammar reference and practice books, and a list of internet resources. The course is especially useful for prospective or new teachers, whether pre or post CELTA.

Applied Grammar Course for Teachers of English
This course is designed for more experienced teachers who already feel comfortable with the essentials of English grammar, both in terms of concepts and terminology, and who want to develop a wider repertoire of techniques and approaches for use when introducing and practising new grammar items in the classroom.
It builds on the introductory grammar course and extends techniques for researching and analysing grammar points. We'll also look at language varieties, registers, usage, phonology, functional categories, language development and change, etc.

PRE-CELTA
Introduction to teaching English as a Foreign Language
This informative one day course is designed for people interested in doing a CELTA course. It introduces participants to the type of analysis of grammar and vocabulary expected during the course, shows how a lesson is built up and also gives a short explanation of the language teaching development which has led to current teaching methods. The workshop environment with one of the current TLC Baden CELTA tutors will give you a good idea of how the actual CELTA course is conducted.

CELTA (Cert. in Teaching English to Adults)
TLC- The Language Company in Baden offers 3 optional CELTA courses from 2012. These are the only part-time or on-line courses on offer in the Zürich region and are run by the some of the most experienced and popular local EFL trainers. The courses take place within a real language school environment giving them an authenticity appreciated by trainees. The part-time format of makes for optimal learning. As a result these courses are very popular and interested teachers need to apply well in advance.
The 12-week courses take place from January to April and from September to December on Fridays and some Saturdays. These have over 144 contact hours (more than the minimum required by Cambridge). The so-called online CELTA takes 15 weeks from April to mid-July. This option is actually a blend of on-line input sessions and 6 weeks of face-to-face teaching practice on Tuesdays and Fridays. It an ideal option for those who need more flexibility and live a fürther away.
The CELTA is by far the most widely recognized introductory teaching qualification for candidates who have little or no previous English language teaching experience. It may also be suitable for candidates with some experience but little previous training.

- 15-week "on-line" course: 2 April to 13 July 2012 incl. 6 weeks of teaching practice from 8 - 25 May and 19 June - 6 July from 09.00 - 15.00 (deadline end February 2012).

Bridge Course: From CELTA to SVEB1
Some eduQua certified schools require that their teachers have a SVEB1 qualification. If you already have a CELTA, you simply need to do this Bridge Course which takes 2 days and is approved by SVEB as being equivalent. The course covers group dynamics, development and cohesion, student roles and working in the Swiss context.

Delta (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
Delta is a widely recognised qualification which builds your teaching skills and techniques. It is a practical alternative to an MA and helps you further your career in English Language Teaching. You become more effective and so you enjoy your teaching more.
John Potts and Paul Kelly are the trainers for the modular DELTA course running in TLC. You can decide to take just one module or all three and so gain the full Delta qualification.

One-to-One Language Coaching
Mark Powell will be offering this course in 2012 in Switzerland for the first time.
The Certificate in One-to-One Language Coaching provides the specialist training practising teachers need to face the unique challenges of working with the individual learner. The course caters for teachers of both General and Professional or Business English. This highly intensive 18-hour teacher development course is run over three days at TLC's comfortable and well-equipped training centre in Baden.

Cert IBET (International Business English Training)
The Cert IBET encourages participants to develop practical teaching skills and an awareness of the principles behind them in a Business English context. A mixture of workshops, mini-lectures and hands-on tasks provides a dynamic and intensive 50 hours of learning.
The course leader, Mark Powell, is a dynamic presenter, experienced teacher trainer and expert in business English teaching. Mark is the author of several business English course books (including Business Matters and In Company) and resource books. He has been instrumental in setting up and defining the Cert IBET course in Europe.
Participants who complete the course and assignment will be awarded the Certificate in International Business English Teaching. This is a prestigious qualification, which enhances status in the job market. The Cert IBET is for qualified and experienced (min. two years), native and non-native speaker teachers of English as a Foreign Language (EFL).
Dates: 27 July - 3 August 2012 (incl. Saturday and Sunday)
